6 Ways to Hit Refresh On Your Hair Before Summer!
Just like your closet or your home, your hair needs a good spring cleaning too! After months of dry air, heat styling, and product buildup, now’s the perfect time to press reset and give your hair a fresh start before summer.
Here are 6 ways to spring clean your hair and scalp for stronger, shinier strands:
1. Clarify That Buildup
Start with a clarifying shampoo to remove product residue, excess oil, and hard water minerals that weigh hair down. (But don’t overdo it—once every 1–2 weeks is plenty!) My two all around favorites are Moroccan Oil Clarifying Shampoo & Olaplex 4C Clarifying Shampoo !
2. Scrub Your Scalp
A gentle scalp scrub or exfoliating treatment boosts circulation and clears away dead skin cells. Healthy hair starts at the root! You can also try using a scalp scrubber, I find it is easiest in the shower during your shampoo ! My new favorite is Briogeo Scalp Revival Micro-exfoliating Shampoo! For a less expensive option, try Verb Gentle Exfoliating Nectar !!
3. Trim the Split Ends
Don’t skip your haircuts!! Even if you don’t typically cut every salon visit, a seasonal trim keeps ends healthy, reduces breakage, and gives your style a fresh feel. Even just a “dusting” makes a difference!
4. Deep Condition or Mask Weekly
Bring life back to dry, brittle strands with a hydrating mask. Don’t be fooled, even if you don’t chemically process your hair with highlights or color services, most people can benefit from a treatment or mask! My favorite for average hair is the R+Co Television Perfect Hair Mask, find it here on R+Co! Amika is another fan favorite as well !
5. Detox Your Product Shelf
Take a look at your styling products—toss anything expired or not working for your current hair needs. If it’s been sitting in your closet or hair bin for over a year, it’s time to part ways ! The ingredients will start to break down and not work properly for you anymore, or even worse may give you oily buildup ! Yikes ! Simplify your routine with products that truly serve your hair goals.
6. Protect What You’ve Refreshed
As temps warm up, add a UV/heat protectant to your daily routine. This will help shield your clean, revived hair from sun and heat damage.I love this product from Moroccan Oil for days in the sun ! You can also try Coola Scalp Hair & Mist, the bottle is little so I will keep this in my beach/pool bag !
Bonus: Book a gloss treatment to boost shine and prep for those summer styles! Did you know the gloss I use also has a UV Shield !?
As always, most of these products I linked you can pick up from me at the salon if you are local, just ask :)
Spring cleaning isn’t just for your home—it’s for your hair too!
